Frontage Point Data

Frontage points are point data that accurately indicates the location of the "basic number" used when determining house numbers in areas where the address system has been implemented.
It can be used as a searchable virtual address point even in newly built areas where official addresses have not yet been assigned, or in locations where the building shape has not yet been registered.
Since this data is located on the front side of the building (towards the entrance/exit), it can also be used to optimize building access points in reverse geocoding and navigation.

Using Geospatial Information Authority of Japan base number
Pinpoint address data

  • This data is based on location information of basic numbers (residential addresses) provided by Geospatial Information Authority of Japan. GeoTechnologies, Inc. has placed address points for each basic number along the outer perimeter of block polygons, regardless of whether there are buildings present or not.

Fully compatible with standard address format.
Can be easily integrated into existing systems.

  • The data structure conforms to the same format as GeoTechnologies, Inc. standard address data and includes attributes such as address code, prefecture name, city/ward/town name, district/district name, and house number. This allows for smooth integration with existing systems such as map search, reverse geocoding, and address databases.
Updated monthly, with immediate support for new construction and home changes.

Updated monthly, with immediate support for new construction and home changes.

  • We employ a system of regular updates 12 times a year (monthly), and we respond quickly to data corrections when Frontage is updated.

Expected usage

  • In map search services, this can be used to pinpoint locations by entering addresses, even in areas where building shapes are not yet defined.

  • In delivery systems, it is possible to reduce the risk of misdelivery by supplementing the temporary location on maps for newly built houses and unregistered properties.

  • In navigation systems, it can be used as an access point to guide users to the front (entrance) side of a building.

  • This can be used to improve the accuracy of returning address candidates from coordinates on a map in reverse geocoding.

  • In facility management systems, this data can be used as location reference data for land use planning and property management.

FAQ

How quickly does FrontagePoint Data update address changes for newly constructed buildings?

We conduct regular updates 12 times a year and respond quickly to the establishment or changes of addresses.
Based on the latest basic survey results from Geospatial Information Authority of Japan of Japan, we are continuously adding and correcting points.

What are the advantages of improving the accuracy of reverse geocoding?

Even in areas where existing address data or building information is not yet available, returning the relevant frontier point increases the likelihood of returning an appropriate address for locations where search results would not have been obtained using only address data.

How does frontage point data help guide people to building entrances?

Frontage points are set at locations considered to be close to the entrance of buildings that have been assigned a street address. Therefore, by integrating them into navigation and guidance apps, it is possible to guide visitors to the front side of the building, rather than the back or perimeter of the property. Even if building shape data is not registered, guidance that takes the entrance direction into account is possible, improving the accuracy of visit and delivery services.
(※We also have data on building guidance points, so you can use that data as well.)

How much does Frontage Point data contribute to pinpoint address searches within nationwide residential address areas?

This data is effective as supplementary data for address candidates in areas where traditional address data is difficult to find, such as undeveloped land or newly constructed areas. This is expected to improve the hit rate of address searches and enhance user satisfaction with map services.
