MapFan DB

Road map database

We provide high-quality, high-precision, and highly up-to-date road data covering approximately 1.3 million km of roads across Japan, as well as comprehensive nationwide data including narrow streets under 3 meters in width. We also offer road data suitable for various applications, such as regulations for specific vehicle types and sizes, including trucks, as well as road elevation and slope.

Road map database

<Basic Data>

High-quality, high-precision, and highly up-to-date road data covering approximately 1.3 million km across Japan
  • Extensive attribute data (road type, route type, number of lanes, national/prefectural road number, etc.). Data showing road types and characteristics (bridges, tunnels, overpasses, underpasses, level crossings, etc.) is also available.
  • Comprehensive traffic regulation data (such as road closures, one-way streets, time-based restrictions, and no-turn/right-turn restrictions).
  • Newly opened and renovated roads across the country are regularly updated.
  • Optional features include toll data for ETC and other Vehicle type regulation, and data on zones (30 km/ Stop sign, and Speed limit.
Road data covering all of Japan, including even narrow streets less than 3 meters wide
  • This data includes unpaved roads, farm roads, forest roads, and connecting roads to private homes that are less than 3 meters wide nationwide, which are not included in standard road network data. This allows for various applications, such as improving road display on maps, enhancing the quality of last-mile guidance to destinations, and utilizing it for various analyses and interpretations.
*Note: This data format differs from the standard road network data. (Provided in an extended format that includes road link, road node, and segmentation details.)
A pedestrian-only network that also covers station premises and stairs
  • This network of pedestrian-accessible areas, including train stations, pedestrian overpasses, pedestrian decks, underground passages, parks, and staircases, is being developed in major cities, airports, and large parks throughout Japan.

<Optional Data>

1. Driving and Traffic Restriction Information

Zone 30 information, based on the National Police Agency's regulatory database
  • Zone 30 is a traffic safety measure aimed at ensuring the safe passage of pedestrians and cyclists on residential streets.
  • The data includes Zone 30 areas (polygon shapes) and Zone 30 links (corresponding link IDs).
  • It can also be used for advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS).
Speed limit information posted on road signs and road paint markings
  • This can be used for logistics delivery, as well as for route search options and map display in car navigation systems.
  • Speed limit data will be provided as table data, linked to each road link.
Nationwide road stop sign data obtained from road surveys
  • Can be used for audio alerts or icon notifications before entering target intersections.
  • Locations without stop signs (e.g., temporary signs, road paint only, or stop lines only) are not covered.
Toll table for expressways and toll roads, including ETC discounts
  • Supports different toll formats depending on the road, including separate tolls for cash-paying vehicles and ETC-equipped vehicles, as well as ticketing and payment options
  • Stores toll data by vehicle type, such as oversized vehicles, large vehicles, medium-sized vehicles, regular vehicles, and small vehicles
Regulation information for specific vehicle types and sizes, such as trucks
  • This is nationwide vehicle type regulation that allows you to determine whether large cargo vehicles such as trucks are permitted to pass through certain areas.
This database covers roads nationwide and includes information on physical restrictions such as vehicle width, height, weight, and load capacity, as well as regulations based on traffic signs, such as prohibitions against large vehicles and vehicles carrying hazardous materials. It also includes attributes for motorcycles, taking into account whether or not they are suitable for two riders.
This data is highly effective in optimizing logistics vehicle routes, improving the accuracy of vehicle-specific navigation functions, and conducting simulation analyses.
  • The target area includes all roads, including narrow streets.
  • This enables even more practical route searching, such as for large vehicle routes.

2. Special/Additional Information

Distance marker point data obtained through on-site driving surveys
  • Distance marker information for each route is stored in 100m increments.
  • The target areas are mainly urban expressways and highways (urban expressways, non-high-standard roads, and high-standard trunk roads that do not connect to highway routes are excluded).
Image database collected through independent road surveys across Japan
  • These road-driving images are generated by continuously capturing still images of the road ahead of and behind the vehicle using onboard cameras and associating each image with location information.
  • It covers roads throughout Japan, including even narrow streets, and historical images (archive data) are also available.

3. Road shape/structure information

Includes estimated values for road width (minimum width)
  • This data contains estimated values for road width (minimum width) and is provided in an external table format linked to road links.
  • We support highly accurate routing tailored to vehicle size, including optimizing and streamlining logistics and delivery routes, and pre-simulating the routes for transporting heavy machinery and materials to construction and demolition sites.
Represents the elevation at each point along road links across Japan, including narrow streets
  • Built using survey vehicle logs and high-precision measurement equipment data.
  • Completely covers all roads, from expressways and national highways down to narrow streets.
  • Contains areas that Digital Elevation Models (DEM) cannot cover—such as inside tunnels, bridges, and multi-level crossings—supplemented by a variety of data sources.
  • Ideal for various simulations that utilize road slopes and gradients.
Data representing the longitudinal slopes of road links
  • This data represents slope value (%) calculated using two elevation points along the forward direction of the road link.
  • Modeling longitudinal road gradients, it can be used to warn drivers of steep sections and calculate fuel-efficient routes with minimal grade changes.
  • Derived from slope data collected through road survey driving.
Data that represents the connection relationship from entry to exit on a lane-by-lane basis
  • Shape data representing lane transitions from entry to exit.
  • This data models lane connectivity from entry to exit on a lane-by-lane basis. It can be used to provide drivers with more advanced guidance for merging and diverging, as well as guidance for lane changes, through voice and illustrations.
Curve point data containing curvature and azimuth angles
  • Can be used for alerting drivers when approaching sharp curves, visualizing curve locations on maps, and calculating routes that factor in curvature.
  • Mechanically generated from constituent points of the road network.
  • Stores curvature values (1/radius of curvature [m]) and azimuth values (0 degrees at true north, positive clockwise) for road curve points.
