Logistics 2024 Problem Countermeasure: Truck Route Planning Now Possible! MapFan 'Truck Route Search'

Map apps are incredibly convenient. These days, many people use them as navigation apps instead of car navigation systems when driving. However, map apps often guide drivers along routes that are too narrow to pass or ignore traffic regulations not shown on the map. Choosing such routes can not only disrupt your driving plan but sometimes lead to accidents, such as scraping your car. This is especially true when driving a truck; if you don't follow a proper route, you could end up stuck on a narrow road. Therefore, choosing an appropriate route when driving is also the driver's responsibility.

For such an important driving route simulation, I recommend the map site" MapFan ". This time, I'll introduce one of its basic functions: "Route Search"!

It even supports route planning for large trucks! Click here for details on MapFan API

The 'Route Search' function of the map site "MapFan"

The map site "MapFan" is built using MapFan API, a corporate product from GeoTechnologies, Inc.. MapFan API is used to implement a variety of route functions, including the "track route search" feature that will be introduced later.

MapFan 's "Route Search" function searches for routes from your starting point, intermediate points, and destination, displaying not only the route itself but also the distance, travel time, and toll road fees.
GeoTechnologies, Inc. (formerly Increment P) leverages its expertise in developing and maintaining maps for car navigation systems to create maps that are designed with actual driving in mind. It uses comprehensive road data, including lanes, traffic lights, and traffic regulations, to determine the most appropriate route.

Furthermore, the user-friendly search function allows you to set up to 30 waypoints. (When using the map tool) You can also change the order of your stopovers by dragging and dropping. To better match your actual itinerary, you can also set a time limit for each waypoint.

Setting a location is easy; you can specify it by address search or map, or select it from your history or bookmarks. It's a good idea to bookmark places you frequently visit.
Route search criteria include four options: "Widest roads possible" for novice drivers, and "Shortest distance" for drivers who prioritize the shortest route. If ETC is available, be sure to turn on Smart IC usage. If you don't want to use toll roads, select "Do not use" and the system will search for routes that do not incur tolls. This is a familiar feature of car navigation systems.

Additionally, a "truck route search" function is available for those who use trucks (large vehicles) for business. This function allows you to set the width, height, and gross vehicle weight of large vehicles, as well as check whether they are carrying hazardous materials.

By making full use of these detailed conditions, you should be able to find routes that are suitable for your daily driving plans. From trucks to regular cars, medium-sized cars, and kei cars, MapFan 's full-fledged route search will come in handy.

Map site "MapFan" 'Route Search' x Business: Delivery route search for long-distance heavy cargo drivers

Using MapFan 's route search function, even drivers of large cargo vehicles who cannot navigate narrow roads can find efficient routes that meet their specific requirements.
Route searching is intuitive and easy to use within your browser. You can also specify more precise routes by setting detailed conditions.

Point 1: Set the departure point, transit point, and destination.
Point 2: Setting departure time and layover time at transit points.
Point 3: Setting detailed conditions

--Point 1: Set the departure point, transit points, and destination--

First, let's set the departure point, intermediate stops, and destination. In this example, we'll set Shinjuku Station as the departure point, Shizuoka Station as the destination, and assume three intermediate stops. If there are multiple intermediate stops, you can specify the order in which you visit them, or you can check "Route" to automatically search for an efficient route without specifying the order.

While this is all you need to search for a route, let's try selecting a more detailed route this time!

--Point 2: Setting departure time and layover time--

You can select not only the time but also the date of departure. This is an important feature because highway tolls and other charges vary depending on the day of the week and time of day. Of course, MapFan 's route search function also reflects these changes in tolls.

Next, let's set the layover time at each stopover point. You can set it in increments of 5 to 15 minutes if the layover is less than an hour, or in increments of 30 minutes if it's more than an hour. This time, we've set both to 45 minutes to account for unloading time.

--Point 3: Setting detailed conditions--

Finally, set the "Route Search Conditions".

Check the boxes from top to bottom, according to the type of car and cargo you'll be carrying. For the "Search Criteria" section, I selected "Widest roads possible." Finally, set the speed limits for general roads, highways, and toll roads. If you're unsure, leaving it at the default is fine.

Once all settings are complete, press the red "Route Search" button.
The total distance, travel time, arrival time, and fare were displayed on the map, along with the route.

Pressing the "+" button at the top of the left column will save the route you just searched for. Even if you leave the page, the saved route will be displayed when you return to the route search, so you can rest assured.
(Note: If you perform another route search, the saved route will be overwritten.)

This time, we introduced the "Route Search" function of "MapFan" using the example of a long-haul large cargo driver. Of course, "MapFan"'s "Route Search" function is not only available for large vehicles, but also for regular cars and other types of vehicles.

At GeoTechnologies, Inc., in addition to our map website "MapFan," we also develop and sell map products for corporate clients. We deploy our own high-precision, up-to-date digital maps for car navigation systems and location-based systems. Visualizing your existing data on a map reveals areas for improvement.
